A post on NHK News Web: “What would like to eat on the last night of the Heisei Era?”

What are you going to eat today or on April 30th, 2019?

Join the Japanese and wonder what to eat on the last day of the Heisei Era!

From May 1st, 2019, a new Era called Reiwa will begin in Japan. About the Era names used in Japan and this transition, a lot of information is on the Internet.

According to a poll, some Japanese are planning to eat a little special, nice meals on April 30th, 2019. It’s because they want to mark and celebrate the last day of the Heisei Era, which began in 1989.

The most people want to eat sushi (16%), then grilled beef (10%), traditional Japanese dinner (9%), ramen (5%).

There are some who will choose soba (buckwheat noodles), just like people do on New Year’s Eve. People wish a long life by eating long noodles on New Year’s Eve. That may be a good idea. Long pasta will do, too.

Along those line, then, maybe on the next day, May 1st, some people will go to the beach or a hilltop. That way they can see to see the first sunrise of the era.

May you all have the Happy Era of Reiwa!
