In July 2024, the ruins of Sado Island Gold Mines were registered as a World Heritage site.
The Mines have been the most famous place for over 400 years on Sado Island.
Sado has many attractive qualities from delicacies from the land and the sea to old temples and historic structures and to activities such as cycling, hiking and the traditional Noh theater appreciation. However, there are no fun activities or beautiful scenery at the mines. We need to know a little bit of its history.
We thought you would enjoy the visit more if you knew some historic background, and here are five short stories for you.
