A backdoor screen

It was in summer. 

I wanted a screen on the back door with a big pane of glass, so I pasted an old silk scarf on the door with packing tape.

It was just a temporary relief, until I would buy a blind or a curtain, but it stuck quite securely.

The material was very thin and so let the light in, and I could see outside from within. At the same time, I couldn’t see inside from outside.

The colors were pretty, and I loved it.

An old purchase

I bought this scarf long time ago, on West 85th St and Amsterdam Ave in Manhattan at “Filene’s Basement”, a discount department store chain. 

There used to be a lot of similar stores in NYC (probably in all over the US) but they went out of business quickly in the early two thousands. Filene no longer exists there, either. 

Anyway, it was a love at first sight for me. This scarf was light blue and was printed with gorgeous flowers in red, orange and purple. It was 100% silk, the price great, and I grabbed it.

However, later I sadly found the colors too vivid and bright to match my dull complexion. It is very big, too, so I thought of making it into something different but I was poor at sewing.

I had a pretty thing which I didn’t know how to use! It really annoyed me. 

Now it’s finally found a place to make everyone happy.

A report of death

Recently Mr. Kenzo Takada, a fashion designer from Japan, passed away in Paris due to the new coronavirus. Mr. Takada started KENZO brand in 1970. When I was young, he was really a big star in fashion…

It reminded me that my new door screen was a KENZO brand! 

I cut off the label from the scarf so there is no proof any more, but I like the design all the more without the display of the brand name. 

I have cherished it everyday, so I particularly feel sorry about the loss. 

Thank you very much, Mr. KENZO, for leaving us beautiful things.

裏口うらぐちの目め隠かくし

夏なつのことです。

ガラス張ばりの裏口うらぐちドアに目め隠かくしが欲ほしくて、古ふるいシルクのスカーフを梱包こんぽうテープで張はり付つけました。

ブラインドかカーテンを買かうまでの一いち時じしのぎにと思おもったけれど、意い外がいにしっかりくっつきました。

生き地じがとても薄うすいので外そとの光ひかりが入はいります。また、中なかからは外そとが見みえるけれど、外そとからは中なかが見みえない。

色いろもきれいで、とても気きに入いっています。

昔むかしの買かい物もの

このスカーフは、昔むかしニューヨーク・アムステルダム街がい85はちじゅうご丁ちょう目めにあった「ファイリーンの地ち下か室しつ」という安やす売うり専門せんもんの小ちいさなデパートチェーンで買かったものです。

一ひと昔むかし前まえはニューヨークには（たぶん全米ぜんべいに）そういう店みせがたくさんあったのですが、どんどんなくなっていきました。「ファイリーン」も今いまはそこにありません。

さて、このスカーフは、水色みずいろに、赤あかやオレンジ、紫むらさきと華はなやかな色いろの花はながたくさんプリントしてあって、私わたしは一ひと目め惚ぼれでした。絹きぬ100ひゃく%パーセントでお値ね段だんもよかったので、飛とびついて買かいました。

ところが後あとで当あててみると、色いろがあざやかすぎて、くすんだ肌色はだいろの自じ分ぶんには似に合あわない。とても大おおきいので何なにかに作つくり替かえられるかと思おもいましたが、裁縫さいほうは苦にが手て。

きれいなのに、使つかえなくて困こまっていました。

やっとみんなに喜よろこばれる場ば所しょが見みつかった訳わけです。

訃ふ報ほう

先日せんじつ、1970せんきゅうひゃくななじゅう年ねんにKENZOケンゾーブランドを立たち上あげた日 に本人ほんじんデザイナー、高たか田だ賢三けんぞうさんがパリで、新型しんがたコロナウイルスにより死し去きょしました。私わたしが若わかい頃ころは、高たか田ださんはファッション界かいのスターでした。

私わたしの新あたらしい裏口うらぐち目め隠かくしが実じつはケンゾーだったと思おもい出だしました。

ラベルは切ってしまったので証拠は残ってないけれど、でも、ブランド名がわからないデザインとしてかえって気に入っています。

毎日まいにち見みては楽たのしんでいたので、亡なくなられて一層残念いっそうざんねんに思おもいます。

KENZOさん、美うつくしいものを残のこしてくださり、ありがとうございました。
